Popovice Brewery

The brewery in Velké Popovice lies only 25 km from Prague. Its most famous beer, “Velkopopovický Kozel”, has been brewed in this small town since 1874. Today, much of the original brewery still stands, simply waiting to be explored. Come and meet our dedicated brew masters and discover the secrets of a traditional Czech brewery.

Info

All guided brewery tours start in Visitor’s Centre located in the centre courtyard. The next stop is brewhouse number three where an exhibition will take you through each and every step of the brewing process.

Next up is an interactive presentation about history that will take you through the key stages in the development of the brewery, the brand and you will also discover the story of the brewery’s founder, Baron František Ringhoffer and his family, who played a large role in creating and changing the story not only of the brewery, but of the entire region. Another stop is the historical brewhouse from the year 1928.

The route continues into the lager cellars, where the beer is left to ferment and mature. You’ll also get to try a Kozel beer so that you can taste what is talked about (for visitors aged 18 and over only).

Going past the fermenting tanks and through the newly built tunnel with a “beer pipe” nearly 40 metres in length, visitors will then enter the packaging hall with fully automated bottling and keg lines, now also with exhibitions of historical beer packaging, beer loading, exports of Velkopopovický Kozel beer and its success abroad.

The last stop before heading back to browse in the gift shop will be to meet the brewery’s living mascot – the Kozel goat called Olda.
